"That, I'm afraid, is classified information, ma'am," answered Commander Steve Rogers with a well natured smile. The press conference was going well, which surprised him in a way. He was a soldier through and through, but he knew accepting the position of Head of Security of the United States of America would put him in the middle of another battleground he did not want to fight in: politics. Being the next Nick Fury, the next Tony Stark, and as much as he would loath the comparison, the next Norman Osborn, brought with it a considerable amount of questions and his concerns.
What exactly would he do differently? What, if anything, would he keep the same? What his policy on capital punishment? His opinion on the war? His opinion on the current administration in office? And after everything the American people had been through thus far, he couldn't blame them for wanting answers. Maybe decades earlier he could have answered in a way that would have quieted the masses and approved the press.
"Next question, please?," Steve asked, scanning the crowd of the assembled reporters. "How about you, sir? With the blue tie? Mister...?"
"Chris Mitchells, New York Times. Thank you, Commander Rogers," replied the reporter as the crowd grew silent. "As the newly appointed Head of Security for the country, just what is it that you plan to do concerning more, let's say, mundane crime? As Captain America, you and the Avengers often dealt with threats of national, global, and even galactic significance. Some feel that street crime will slip by your notice. SHIELD and HAMMER alike were often critiqued of being too focused on "superhumans" and not "average humans", as well. Your response to such claims?"
"Let me be frank, Mr. Mitchells. Even as an Avenger, I never once turned a blind eye to more "street level" threats. Not in New York, not in DC, and certainly not now. Everyone from gangbangers to corrupt businessmen - you know who you are - to time traveling conquerors to rogue androids to even self proclaimed gods of evil, no threat will go unnoticed by me or by the fine men and women I work with." Steve looked over the crowd as camera flashes went off, taking photos and recording every word he spoke. "Anything, anyone that threatens the safety of the American people, no matter where said threat originates from, will be dealt with. Of this, I swear."
